| | I have attached a file to fix the slow Cardex in version 5.1. This will only be available through this forum on the Calyx Support Message Board. To install: 1) Close Point if you have it open 2) Right-click the attached file "cardexlib.exe.txt" and choose Save Target As, and save it to your desktop 3) Rename the file to "cardexlib.exe", and double-click to run it. 4) Confirm the default unzip location, c:\winpoint, or browse to the path where your winpoint folder is actually located. 5) Click Unzip. 6) Repeat the above steps for each workstation where Point is installed. On our tests a Cardex with 20,000 records now takes a couple seconds to launch.

| One thing to note if it does not seem to work you may need to clean out the Global Assembly Cache. for cardex.

| | When I try to run the exe, windows wants to know what type of software to run it? Even after i rename the file on my desktop to the cardexlib.exe, windows still thinks it is a text file? |

| Turn on file extensions for known file types. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders.

| | Please explain further. What is the Global Assembly Cache. for cardex? Where is it located (server or workstations)? How do you clean it? Running NT4 server, SP6a (I know - owner is going to upgrade in a couple of months). Workstations are (2) Win2K, SP4, (the others) XPPro, mixture of SP1 and SP2. PNTTMPL and DATA are pathed to the server. Wired LAN. With 5.1, Cardex was horrible. When users attempted to open it, there would be no response for about a minute, then Point would show Not Responding for about 5 seconds, then Cardex would finally open. Installed 5.2 upgrade over the weekend and Cardex open times are down to about 3 to 4 seconds now, a definite improvement. One XPPro, SP1, workstation is slower than all the rest though and is taking about 10 to 15 seconds to open Cardex. 5.2 upgrade was definitely applied to this workstation. Wondering if this cache could be the cause. Thanks, Pat

| you can click start run and type "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322/ngen.exe /delete" with out the quotes and click OK. This will remove the the cached images. If this does not work, I have seen cardex perform bad on xp when the system does not have enough ram. So you might want to check that, if its xp it should probably have 256 or more. Also you might check the network card make sure its 100 mbps rather then an 10 mbps

| | What is the reason for building Point on the Microsoft .NET framework? (Obviously I'm not a developer.) Just wondering, as I've seen a lot of posts that seem to point to complications due to the .NET framework. |

| Its the productivity that it gives, we can do thing with the dotnet framework in a day that would have otherwise taken a week of work. There are a few issues we have had when using dotnet. The two main issues are a slightly slower first time start. and dotnet has more security so you cannot just run an exe off a file share.
