I have a loan rep who was recently married and her name has changed.  How should I rename all of her files to show her new name?

She has a ton of old files associated with her maiden name.

i've got just the thing for you.

Generate a report, using two field id's.

fieldname     fieldid     condition

path           7

loanrep        19          cn: = loanrepname

the condition is equal to the loanrep name

So.  generate the report, you will get the path to just this one loan officers files.  Export it to excel.  once in excel, change the loanrep column information to the new name that will be imported into all the files.  you can replicate the name to all fields in Excel.   once that is done save it as tab delimited text.

Now, create a data import template to import the two fields and update the loan officers existing files.  be sure to check the box to update existing files.  this will import the new loan officer name into all the loan officers files.  You'll have to fill in the data import template with the name of the column headers in the text file, such as, Path and loanrep, then the field id  19, which will be updated.

walaa  works like a charm

When you do this, be certain to include the file name (field 7) in the import and export; otherwise, import won't know which files to update. You may need to run this as a batch import using import.exe.

This should work fine. I was able to get this working by using batch import button in the import template to update the existing files.

If you do this very often, you may want a tool that can take care of it for you. (www.mtig.biz/psr.htm - does a search and replace on multiple files/folders).

You can also create a master file with only those fields completed. This works if you only have a few files to do this to.

I am trying to do this process described.  The first problem I ran into is that the filename field ID in Point 6.0 with PDS is #1.  It didn't recognize #7.

I have my tab delimited output file which ahs 2 columns, the filename and loanrep name, with the new name I want to update into the existing files.

I created the data import as specified in this thread.

Now I am trying to do the import via a batch import as described in the help file for Point 6.0. I went to templates, data import, and opened my template.  I selected ASCII and put the path to the tab delimted file.  When I click batch import, it just asks me if I want to proceed.  No where does it ask me what data folder to import to.

What am I doing wrong?

The data folders is determined by the file path. You absolutely need to use field #7 for the file name. Field #1 is not the file name, its the "loan number" which defaults to the name of the file minus the path and extension. You could totally screw up your files if you use field #1. On top of that, the import probably won't even work. See the import template below:
