| | A client just purchased a new laptop, installed Point 6.1a, then downloaded and installed Vista updates. Point worked before the updates but now it terminates with the message: Point application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. He has tried uninstalling and reinstalling Point but gets the same error. (He also tried to repair with same result.)

| Does it work if you run it as admin?

| | It doesn't work when running as admin. It is a DEP issue and adding it to the allowed programs list does NOT fix the problem. In addition, turning off DEP altogether does not fix the issue. The only thing that allows 6.1a to run is to remove all anti-virus and firewall software. Now Point won't completely uninstall so I have to uninstall by hand. Reinstallation terminates with error 1901.

| Hi Mike
You mentioned that removing antivirus/firewall allows Point to run. So It sounds like a Symantec Endpoint issue. Here's a KB article addressing it.

Hope that helps.

| We were able to resolve this by removing antivirus altogether. It was strange because, with the presence of Symantec, Point triggered the DEP, even when we turned it off altogether. I hate running without antivirus on a client computer but that's the way it has to be.

| Just thought I would mention that we also tried to uninstall/reinstall .net framework and attempted to set up the Symantec Protection Manager Console to exclude Point but we still got the same error.
