What's REALLY wrong with 6.1? You claim the reason for 6.1a was to correct a flaw in the netsetup install that was affecting 1% of your users. Shipping a new CD to every customer had to be a huge expense; one that makes no economic sense to fix a problem that affects just 1% of your users. The enlcosed letter adds suspicion becuase it tells us to throw away the 6.1 CD.

So... What's REALLY wrong with 6.1?

It really was the install. We moved to a MSI based installation in 6.1; while it's far from perfect, it was the necessary step. Not knowing exactly who had their Point data folders in the Netsetup folder, we had to ship out a new CD to all customers.

Can someone tell me when we will be getting the 6.1a CD?  We have got 6.1 but that is it so far.  I am waiting to test the install until 6.1a comes - which I assume is a good move?

Thank you,

Eric J. Lilly

Hi keystone,

If you do a NetSetup folder I would be interested to know if it does the same thing to you that it does to me.

My Netsetup would specify the PDS server, install Point Administrator, and would not change any locally defined folders. On every install, Netsetup would add a "|" character to the end of the PNTDATA folder path and in some cases it would remove "L\" from the end of the template folder path.

I can't be the only person with this problem, but so far no one else has complained about it that I have seen. It happens in both 6.1 and 6.1a.

I believe this is a confirmed issue.  I don't have any eta for fixes but my expectation is 6.2

My estimate is we will fix in 6.2. If anyone else is having this problem, please post here so I can take down the specifics of your environment and settings.
