| | I ran into an interesting problem today. My users that have 6.1 (not 6.1a) and tried to update to 6.1a using the full install set were rewarded with a message that it (6.1a) was already installed. It appears to me that 6.1 must be patched to 6.1a - that the 6.1a install set can only install new or upgrade from a previous install that is a full version older, like 6.0. Calyx, your product isn't good enough for me (us, I hope) to put with this much frustration. 6.1 has confused and frustrated my users, frustrated an annoyed me, and made the IT Department as a whole look bad. |

| | m00se, I hear your frustrations. I'm sorry that it's caused all the headaches it has. The error message they received is because a Netsetup run.exe install is already on the computer. They can't install the regular version over that, it defeats the purpose of the Netsetup auto updates. Were they trying to install the full CD install over a Netsetup based install? I'm not understanding your comment here:

| | I agree with that. My MIS group hasn't even dug into the 6.1 releases. We tried to roll-out 6.1 with the .msi installer package, and when that quickly failed validation, we stopped there. We don't have the time to go to each PC and install it one-by-one. Nor am I willing to adjust my network security to give my users permissions to install applications. We were very relieved by the addition of the .msi package, but not too surprised when that failed to work. 6.1a fails the validation as well. There is no documentation on the correct way to roll that out, and these boards have very similar questions, but sadly... no real and/or plausible answers. |

| Bryan Telford (6/19/2008) m00se, I hear your frustrations. I'm sorry that it's caused all the headaches it has. They can't install the regular version over that, it defeats the purpose of the Netsetup auto updates. Were they trying to install the full CD install over a Netsetup based install? These were users that did a CD-based install (I copied the CD to a shared folder on a server) of 6.1. All of my netsetup users got 6.1a when I put the patch in the netsetup folder - along with all of the other netsetup problems. I'm not understanding your comment here: From what I ran into today, a user who has installed 6.1 must use the POINT61a-EU patch to upgrade to 6.1a. The 6.1a full install set would refuse to install over 6.1. |

| I'm not going to try sugarcoating anything. I hear all your frustrations. We're working as quickly as possible to respond. Unfortunately, MSI validation was not originally intended for initial 6.1, nor the 6.1a release. We hope to have the validation issue resolved in the 6.2 release, due out in late August/early September.

| From what I ran into today, a user who has installed 6.1 must use the POINT61a-EU patch to upgrade to 6.1a. The 6.1a full install set would refuse to install over 6.1. This would only ever be the case if their winpoint.ini file has the ConfigServer=1. Otherwise, it should let you proceed with either the EU patch or the 6.1a full install.

| | At least a fix to the .msi packages are in the works. But, I have read on these boards since version 5.4 (and probably longer) about an option to use an .msi package to push Point to the workstations (for security restrictions and such). And now, it is just a longer "waiting game" for the fix to that. |
