We have a New DELL Server with MS SERVER 2007 VMWare and also have 12 licenses for Terminal Server and our team has struggled with errors, speed, and time consumption to get it working right.

With 2 of our off site offices in the neighboring state ( 4 to 6 LO in each office)

Our main office has 2 - 3 Processors and about 25 - 30 Loan Offices,  Not all of them in the office at the same time accessing point.

Our server have plenty of RAM and we are about to add more disc space Our dilemma is the cost or SQL ($9000.00) at what point is SQL Express not going to work for us in the environment.  Our Tech team which are sub Contractor are telling us SQL Express will not work for us.  And want to sell us $9000 upgrade.   at what point do you need more then Express

You had said that the old loans could be archived into convential folders,  Does that mean that some of the Old Data can bee accessed internally with Point?   That would be great as we have put all of oou loans in folder by year?

The flat file size will be larger then the actual database file size(which has the 4GB limit) since we do not store all of the point fields/files in the Database.

You have two choices, you can copy the loans from PDS into a conventional Datafolder.  Alternativly in PDS you can Switch a Datafolder back to conventional.  As long as a Point client can access that conventional Datafolder you will be able to access all of its files.

Since PDS is a server based product you only need to run one copy for your company.  Depending on your terminal server's load you may or may not want it on the same server.  I would suggest a separate system to better isolate the loan information and increase PDS performance.

You may find it beneficial to still run Point under a TS session and have it connect to your PDS server.  I believe there are some customers utilizing this type of setting you might check the Terminal Sever thread http://messageboard.calyxsupport.com/Forum7-1.aspx

Once again our entire POINT 6.0 Data folder totals 1.5 GB of which we have seperate data folders for each year and state.  ie 2008Maine, 2008NH, 2007Maine, 2007NH  etc.

We are meeting with the "Tech Team" Today and want to have a clear understanding of how it works.
