I'm currently running Point 5.3 in a Citrix environment and I'm frequently running in to problems across the board for my user community. I have 15 data folders and roughly 50 remote users. The users have an .ini file that distinguishes what data folders they have access to.

Once a user logs in to Point, without fail, within 5-15 minutes the user will click search for locate files and be given files that are not in the data folder they are searching and in some instances that they don't have access to based on the .ini file. Sometimes that phrase "invalid argument was encountered" will appear, but most of the time there is no error message. My users have to log in and out of Point every 5-15 minutes to get any work done. Very inefficient!

Any ideas?

for that version of point make sure each point user has their own winpoint.ini file and a separate application directory.

Each user does have its own .ini file and I have just confirmed the application directory as well. Any other ideas as to what could be contributing to these problems?

In your winpoint.ini files make sure the user= diretory is also diffrent for all users.  otherwise they may end up getting the folder lists from a common userprofile.ini

the folder lists have been displayed correctly each time. however, as soon as someone closes a file in point and they are back at the main page, the screen refreshes and displays all of the files in the folder that is listed 1st in the folder list regardless of if the individual has access to the files in Point or based on the .ini file. the folder in the top left navigation bar still displays correctly as the 7th or 8th in the list "Mortgage 7", but the files displayed are all for "Mortgage 1". This person than has to log off point and log back in to get back to the actual files in the "mortgage 7" folder.

all of the ini files on the server point to one file:

c:\program files\calyx\winpoint\user\userprofile

so if all .ini files and all users are using this one file, would it create the problem I am experiencing and how would I resolve it?

yes it would create your problem.  In each winpoint.ini set the user= directory to the users copy of the application directory.

okay the directory thing helped and eliminated the problem... thank you!.

however, i have encountered two more problems:

1.) We can no longer save any new files to any company folder because Point can not locate the following file
C:\pntdata\borrower
We can still save existing files, but new files it isn't letting us save. Any ideas?

2.) When switching between data folders, 8 out of 10 times we get the following error message "invalid argument encountered". Where can I troubleshoot or look to to try and resolve this?

I think for the first issue you need to look through the winpoint.ini's userprofile.ini's on this machine and see where the users are picking up these settings from.

Your second issue sounds like a corrupt folder name so while you look through the ini files check folder.ini company name in those directories and see if any look off.

I don't recall if 5.3 or 5.4 fixes all the issues relating to corrupt data in  folder.ini.
