Here's what I'm up against. I have several workstations that don't have point admin on them for security reasons. I need to set up a new data folder so I made one in point admin on the server and connected it to all the admin accounts that do have point admin on their computers. My problem is that it isn't showing up on the general workstations. How can I set this up without them having pointadmin on their comps?

I did see this searching: add the data folders in the Point Network Configuration Server (Start > Programs > Calyx Software > Point Network Configuration Server)

But will that overwrite my existing folders or screw anything else up? Do I just add the new folder in there and save?

Any help is appreciated

Thx - Captain

That is only for when you installed the clients via the netadmin installs.  then config.exe would control all the datafolders they see.

For now the easy way is probably just to update the winpoint.ini file.

Thanks for the help, but there's one other thing I want to say. when it comes to technical aspects such as this, I think I know more than I really know. How would I update the ini file. Would I just open it with notepad on the server? or is there another program within point to modify it?

Normally Point Admin will edit this file for you, but you can just use note pad to open the file on the clients computer.

find the directories section then add another folder##= line.  Make sure the last datafolder in the list = SENTINEL.

Sorry for the delayed response, we had some server maintinance the last few days. Let me ask you though. What file will I need to edit?

Edit: I found the UserProfile.ini file and changed it in there, but I can't get it to save for some reason. I'll change it, save it and it just goes back to the way it was before

Edit again: It reverts back when I log into point.

you will want to edit the winpoint.ini file.  You might want to search the computer and make sure there is not more then one.
