We are just now moving to PDS from standard network installation of Point.  My question regards moving files from one folder to another.  In the past when a user did this, they were able to reindex the database from within Point.  Now it appears that functionality is gone.  When a user uses the "Rebuild List" function, none of the PDS files are available.  Must this only be done from the PDS admin site using synchronize?

If you are using Point and PDS to copy files you don't need to rebuild any indexes.

When you copy a file from one PDS folder to another PDS folder using Point, the index is automatically updated in the PDS SQL database and the file will appear in the destination folder.

If you are copying a file manually using Windows Explorer into a PDS folder, the PDS FileSync windows service should see that you've just copied the file (in the filesystem) and will automatically update the PDS SQL Server index.  If you copy a file manually into a conventional folder (non-PDS), then you need to "rebuild the index".

It is rare that you need to synchronize a PDS accelerated data folder manually.  If you do, you need to use the PDS Admin site to synchronize the given data folder you do it under Configuration > Folder Maintenance > Synchronization.  This forces the PDS FileSync windows service to scan the data folder for changes, deletions and updates to its files.
