| | what version of windows is running on the client computers and what version is on the file server? are you using a unc path or a mapped network drive for connecting to the file share? Also is it one user or multiple that see this issue? If you rebuild the datafolders index does it go away for a while? in the data folders that are affected about how many files to you see in the directory in exploer? One thing you might try is to move all of the files out of the datafolders/borrower folder and move them back then rebuild the index, some times this will help. If your usin a linux or Novell box as a file server some times windows do not agree with the 8.3 file name on the server which will cause this type of error.

| I was having this probkem, which we found out was due to the auto-naming feature for filenames. We were naming our files by date, which I think is kind of the default way of doing it, for both computers on the network and off the network. What was happening, was when a loan officer came back to the officer after taking an application at a clients home, he/she would then upload it to the server. The problem was that because the laptop was not connected to the server, it was creating the same auto file name as the server was. This was corrected by having the loan officer check the autoname feature, when uploading the file to the server. If you notice that it is generally the file number that is missing ends in 001 or 002 (which you can see by looking at the GFE if you have one printed, this probably is the problem.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

| you can get this to if you have autofile nameing of the prospect and borrower set up the same, then when you move a prospect over to borrower it will ask you to over write the file. Its always a good practice to have a diffrent prefix for each data folder and borrower/prospect nameing.

| | First, make sure you're using the "move" function in Point. Copying using windows utilities will leave important files behind if you aren't very careful. Second: rebuild the indices regularly. The move function should automatically do that but it is possible that something could go wrong. Third: Autonaming is not the panecea that everyone may think. Since it only applies to the folder in which it is set, moving a file to a different folder that has autonaming could be a problem. Either turn off autonaming on secondary folders or make sure you use the "preserve name" option when you do the move. I have also seen that moving can change the internal GUID for the file. Fourth: back up regularly. Fifth: make sure there is not a process running on your server that restors file in the Point folders. I have seen this happen regularly. Sixth: If you're using a Linux server, make sure your file names are no more than 8 characters long. I know many will argue with me here but it is somewhat complicated to make sure Point is working correctly with the type of naming that goes on with Samba or other Windows emulators. This is a regular source of problems in this area.
