We are experiencing a delay in the ability to Save a new file after copying (or moving) an existing file.

We are having LO's logout of Point ,then right back into Point to get "write" control over the file. This seems to force a synchronization (we think).

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Thanks for your feedback,

could you describe what you mean by a delay? what are the steps your taking and what are the errors or symptoms your seeing?

By delay, I mean that if the user immediately opens the new file, Point will gray out the save icon and display "Read-Only" on the top blue line next to the file name.  The timing seems to vary some times it goes away after a moment, but other times remains read-only for as long as the user has the file open. Several times the LO has input data and then go on to close only to be flashed a message "cannot save read-only".

We have been advising the user to wait, between 2 and 5 minutes before opening the newly made file.  Also, we are suggesting that they log out of  point and right back in.

Thanks,

John Hoopes

In pds, does this user have read only access to any data folder?

Yes, we have setup our archived 2006 closed loans folder as read only for the LOs.  And now that you mention it, this issue appeared right after we setup this new read-only folder.  Is there a connection?

Thanks for your assistance,

yeah,  and its dependent on the order of the read only datafolder in the users list.  If you can remove access of that folder for that group you should be fine.  The next version of Point (6.0) will correct this.

We are experiencing situations were processors (3rd or 4th person to touch a file) will suddenly notice that they are in read-only mode.  We are also experiencing network issues, because of low band width.

What would happen if the client lost connectivity to the PDS server, while you were in a file?

Thanks for your help,

John Hoopes

Once a user is disconected with a file open the reservation will stay active until it hits the time out limit at that time another user can picup the reservation.

We have noticed a similar behavior with servers that are running high cpu or low ram.  It may take several minutes for the file to move from the temploanfiles to the actual data folder.
