Does using a Point Data Server help the Cardex speed at all?

Have you backed up your data today?

cardex's slowness is based upon how many records you have in it.  Currently cardex is not pds enabled( hopefully it will be in a version or two)  The current issue with cardex is cause by the ui auto sizing the displayed columns so the smaller cardex you have the faster it will perform, again this will be fixed in 5.2 which should be out to customers by January.  but currently no template data is not handled by pds and is best stored at each local location, to yield the best performance.

I have been trying to import a small amount of data into the Cardex (40 rows in a csv file) and it just times out.  Thought it might be an issue with the workstation, so I tried from 2 others with stronger hardware.  Still the same thing.  We use a shared cardex on a mapped drive.  Should there be any reason why this continues to time out? (besides the known issues of cardex being sub par in its current format)

what is the format of the text file? do you have write permision to the directory where the file is?  and could you give us the exact error message the cardex is giving you?

The file is a .csv file created in Excel.  Permissions are fine on the directory.  After the field mapping it attempts to run the import and then times out - no error.   Just a windoes error - app not responding.

do you see a schema.ini file being created in the directory where your csv is stored? does the .csv file have a header row?

typicaly how long do you give it to try updating? 1, 5 , 10 minutes?

when you end task on point do you ever see any of the new recoreds in cardex? I know imports will take a long time because it tries to stay in sync for posible other writes to the db, so the not responding is a common side effect.

How large is the beta test group, and how varied as far as size and market, etc?

I've had a problem with the 5.2 upgrade, and want to make sure customers using admin/network installs, and also terminal servers, are well represented.

I work with an office with a dozen LO's, which I know is not the largest or the smallest among Point customers.
