Does anybody have PDS hosted in a data center instead of running it locally?  We're now close to 50 LO's in our company and don't have a good DR plan if PDS goes down.  I'm thinking it might be a better spend to move PDS into a hosted environment (along with Exchange).

Thoughts?

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft%3Aen-US&q=hosting+calyx+point+data+server shows some companies who are hosting Point Data Server.

my understanding is the PDS license does not allow for it to run under a hosted enviroment.

I'm not in Calyx sales department nor did I write the agreement, but as far as I know there is no prohibition on running Calyx Point Data Server in a hosted environment.  Here is a link to the license agreement: http://www.calyxsoftware.com/downloads/Calyx-PDS-License-Agreement.pdf

If you have any questions on this, please contact the Calyx sales department at 1-800-362-2599.

Running this server as a Virtual using VMWare may be more cost effective for your company. VMWare allows for leveraging your hardware better along with giving the ability to quickly bring up your Virtual Point Server on a separate box regardless of HW config (IE in a DR situation). As long as you back up your Virtual Disk files, you can restore to another piece of hardware running VMWare Server. If you can replicate your data on the fly (SAN, SRDF), your potential for data loss decreases enormously.

Because of PDS' low Memory and Proc usage, it is an ideal candidate for this form of architecture.

We run our production File/Print/DHCP/Exchange in a Virtual environment as well as countless other applications. Our current usage is right around 10-20 virtual servers per physical server...Our Exchange environment is a 1-1. Our benefit here is purely in recovery.

From the license agreement:

6. RIGHT TO MONITOR. Calyx has the right to monitor remotely all installations of the Software. During this process, Calyx will not collect or store any loan data.

How, exactly, does Calyx do this?

Other then the customer experience program, we are not exercising this right.

Yes, well... that's not exactly what I asked. I asked for the method of monitoring, not the frequency of or reason for doing do. But then I guess I shouldn't have expected an answer that would possibly reveal a Calyx back door.

When Point is opened, installation data is sent to a server, so Calyx is aware of how many computers are installed at a particular customer's site. This is mentioned during the installation on the "Product Registration" screen where you enter the Account ID, it
