Print groups disappearing happens to our company constantly.  We have remote users that may or may not have the most updated version of Point.  Is there anyway that we can stop the print groups from disappearing????  Why would the "older" versions cause the print groups to disappear when a remote user logs onto the network.  Sorry to be such a dummy!

Are the remote users by any chance using a login script that copies print group files either to their c:\winpoint\pcl folder (My Print Groups) or <network drive:\>pnttempl\printgroup (Shared Print Groups)?

Hello,

In the past we were sharing print groups by copying the files to each computers PCL drive at login.  This process is currently still on to remove these outdated print groups so all only have the "Shared" print groups available (i.e. we are copying blank files to the Windows/PCL folder).  Our remote users also have their PNTTMPL folder on thier local C: drive so they copy this folder every month or so.

Would either of these items cause the print groups to disappear?  It was also mentioned earlier that a previous verison of Point may be the cause.  Let me know what we should do to truly use the Shared Print Groups.

Thank you.

As long as the print group INI files are present in pnttempl folder, and they have not lost their mapping to the network drive, there is no reason I'm aware of for the print groups to disappear. Are you mapping drives or using UNC path to the pnttempl folder? Do you notice any pattern to this problem? What version of Point are the users all running?

Our company is also having the issue of Shared Print Groups disappearing.  Has a resolution been found for this?

This is one of the most annoying issues that I have encountered and have been dealing with this for years now.  It seems to have been magnified with the 6.0 release and I have never received a solid response from anyone at Calyx.

Someone really needs to look into this issue thoroughly as it can be a large hinderance to production.

If you have some steps that always result in this happening post once we can reproduce the issue we can fix it.  The next best option is to set .ini file in your templates/printgroups folder to read only.  See when you get an error about writing to that file.  I won't rule point out but its also very likely that some one is over writing that file with old data.  some type of back up or restore, it might just be one person trying to use ms briefcase with that template folder so they can have offline access to templates.

I also have had this problem and even a within a print group a specific form will be gone.  I am waiting to see of 6.0a resolves it.
