What are the benefits of users having their own Work folder in a TS environment? Can anyone shed some light on this subject for me? I'm considering implementing this but I want to find out what the benefits are before I proceed.

Thanks,
Sean

If by work folder you are referring to the work directory under Point's application directory. Then the answer is a as follows

work is the temporary store of files for Point, the files that are used in this directory have static names there fore in a TS environment multiple users will have resource collisions were user 1 will create a temp file and user 2 will also create a temp file since user 2 created the file last both user 1 and 2 will see this file.

also there is a Tables directory under the Point application directory that stores interface settings such as user names and passwords there for sharing this directory will not allow each user to have a unique user name s and passwords Point users will see the information last entered by any user.

the sharing of these directories causes the sharing of data that should be unique per user as well as erronious data imports during some transactions with some of points interfaces such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

I like the ability to break out individual "Tables" folder for each user. Where can you do that? After looking at the WINPOINT.INI file, it has nothing about the Tables folder.

You cannot adjust the location of the tables or work directories. This root cause of many  a TS issue.

What i would try is for each user  create a directory %system\curent user%\Point(the name is not.)  copy the following folders from the winpoint directory Embdinterface, PCL, SCR, Tables, Work.  ( optionally the user directory.)

Now in each users winpoint.ini file set the application= c:\%system\current user%)Point

If you copied the user directory be sure to change user=c:\%system\current user%\Point\user

Now when you upgrade Point you will have to push all the new data in those directories down to each users directory. but the exe and dlls pointed to by the shortcut and menu would remain in the winpoint directory. Which means you only have to douplicate like 9mb of data per user rather then 60.  Let me know if i need to clear any thing up.
