I installed Point client to f:\winpoint (f: drive is on same hard drive as c: and d...Point Administrator is modifying c:\documents and settings\userid\windows\winpoint.ini...since Point client is loading c:\winpoint.ini instead of the one in the profile, none of the settings from Point admin are being used.

How can I specify the Point client to load the winpoint.ini file in the users's profile?

Typicaly this would be system behavior, and it should default to load the windows/winpoint.ini in the user directory.  not the c:\windows\winpoint.ini you might want to check the citrix documentation on ini file handleing.

OK. So what you're saying is that normally, Point client should always use the .ini files in teh users documents and settings\userid\windows folder...that this is not a problem with Point?

TS/Citrix is in control of setting up the environment that directs this.  It depends entirely on how the windows directory is defined for the given user.  The only thing that Point looks for is the environmental windows directory. you can check this definition if you right click my computer click properties go to advanced tab click enviroment, on bottom window is system varibles you can see what windir is defined as.

ok. It is set to c:\windows for windir variable. Should it not be?

I tried reinstalling, renaming the c:\windows\winpoint.ini file, copying the winpoint folder to the Default Users profile...and then running point admin and point from the users default folder...point administrator successfully connects to the PDS server and shows the data folders for the user on the confirmation screen (like before)...but, now when I launch Point, it says "none of the data folders are accessible at this time"

yes, I did. I switched back to /execute mode before logging on as the user.

Is there a document that describes the winpoint.ini directives?

I tried to follow the "Step by Step" directions and It's not clear to me where the user should be running winpoint.exe from...

OK,
I copied an old winpoint.ini file back into the users winpoint folder...the one that is part of their profile and I was able to get it load and see some data folders under that user.

the problem I have now is I can't simply copy that winpoint.ini file to other users...it either doesn't work at all, or it is trying to use settings from the one user that "works". for example, the userid auto fills with the one user it is working with.

I think my best bet would be to see what a winpoitn.ini file should look like and then an explanation of what each directive does so I can look at mine. Here is what I currently have:

File2=F:\WINPOINT\user\PDSFolders\2\PROSPECT\test.prs

NOTES:
f: - partition on same hard drive as c: - I installed Point client to f:\winpoint
I also pointed the other POINT folders (PNTDATA and PNTTEMPL) to f:\

Right now, this winpoint.ini file is in the default user profile and I copied it to each users's documents and settings\userid\windows folder...and then re-ran point admin to connect to the PDS.

help!

Thanks!!!!
