I will tweak some router configurations and see if I can fix it.  I would also like to know from the PDS team what usually causes this:

Also it seems everytime they bring up a loan it states "Recovering unsaved loans" even on newly created ones.

I believe the client team will try to save a loan file if it finds that it wasn't successful when Point was last closed.

This feature was implemented so if something unexpected happens such as Windows crashing, the network connection dropping, etc... as soon as it starts Point checks if there's a previous unsaved loan and tries to send it to PDS

mlee, check out this thread:

http://messageboard.calyxsupport.com/Topic2328-19-1.aspx

This could also be a problem with the underlying network stack.  I'd suggest what I suggested above: can you try to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft .Net framework 1.1 on the client that is having this issue?  Also if possible, install the .Net framework 1.1 SP1.

I did a bit more research on why someone would get the error “The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS.” and found this thread:

  http://odetocode.com/Blogs/scott/archive/2004/10/28/599.aspx

The page above is written by a Microsoft developer regarding a Microsoft product called “Reporting Server”.  Let me re-phrase what he said in the Point/PDS environment:

There are a number of reasons this error can occur, so it will involve some digging to get to the root cause. Most of the problems revolve around a failure to verify the SSL certificate on the PDS server. You might see the error because:

• The name for the certificate does not match the name of the server
• The certificate has expired or is considered invalid.

A good way to troubleshoot is to browse to the PDS Service with Internet Explorer (https://www.mypdsserver.com/service) and see if IE complains.   Note: instead of www.mypdsserver.com use the exact same URL you’re using on the client machine where you are getting the error.

There are also some less obvious reasons the error might occur. For example, the system time might be incorrect - making it appear as if the certificate has expired (when it has not), or has not yet been created (a certificate from the future!). Set the clock and time zone correctly.

If IE likes the cert, there might be a configuration issue. The URL used by Point to communicate with the PDS Service is found in Point Administrator:

1) Open up Point Administrator.
2) Click on Point Data Server > Settings.
3) Check the Point Data Server URL and make sure it matches the URL in the SSL certificate on the PDS Server.

It is definitely a problem with the SSL certificate, where for some reason Point cannot create a secure channel between itself and the PDS Server.  Hopefully the hints above will help you find the issue.

A: IE does not complain

A: I have verified this and this is not the case

1) Open up Point Administrator.
2) Click on Point Data Server > Settings.
3) Check the Point Data Server URL and make sure it matches the URL in the SSL certificate on the PDS Server.

A: This is setup correctly as well

I'll keep working on it.

Thanks

How did you create the SSL certificate that you installed in IIS on the PDS Server?

Did you purchase it from http://ssl.calyxsoftware.com or from another third-party company ?
