I have an issue where when printing groups of forms, if a built in form of one size follows a custom form of a different size, the built in form, and any built in form thereafter, will print on the size of the custom form.  If, however, the first built in form that follows the custom form is the same size as the custom form, all the built in forms that follow will print properly.

I realize this may be confusing so to better illustrate this problem take a look at the following tables:

Print Group A
FormSizeSize Printed
Loan Application - AllLetterLetter
Truth-In-LendingLegalLegal
(CUSTOM) til qaLetterLetter
Right to Receive AppraisalLetterLetter
Good Faith Estimate - LendersLegalLegal
(CUSTOM) SERVICING DISCLOSURE STATEMENTLetterLetter
Mortgage Loan Commitment - Pg 1LegalLetter
Mortgage Loan Commitment - Pg 2LegalLetter
Print Group B
FormSizeSize Printed
Loan Application - AllLetterLetter
Truth-In-LendingLegalLegal
(CUSTOM) til qaLetterLetter
Good Faith Estimate - LendersLegalLetter
(CUSTOM) SERVICING DISCLOSURE STATEMENTLetterLetter
Right to Receive AppraisalLetterLetter
Mortgage Loan Commitment - Pg 1LegalLegal
Mortgage Loan Commitment - Pg 2LegalLegal
Print Group C
FormSizeSize Printed
Loan Application - AllLetterLetter
Truth-In-LendingLegalLegal
(CUSTOM) til qaLetterLetter
CA Fair Lending Notice DisclosureLetterLetter
Good Faith Estimate - LendersLegalLegal
(CUSTOM) SERVICING DISCLOSURE STATEMENTLetterLetter
Right to Receive AppraisalLetterLetter
Mortgage Loan Commitment - Pg 1LegalLegal
Mortgage Loan Commitment - Pg 2LegalLegal

This has been happening since we implemented 5.1 in November.  We are now running 5.2 and the problem has persisted.  I have tried installing new print drivers, deleting and recreating the BRWPG.ini and PRSPG.ini files, specifying the print sources, changing printers, and running local vs. shared print groups.  I have contacted tech support about this and no one has been able to offer any additional assistance.

Any ideas?

I've forwarded this to some folks on the Point team for investigation. I'll post a reply when I find out the answer. Thanks for the detailed explanation.

Having killed many, many trees to test this issue, I’ve written up a bug report for the developers, and hopefully they’ll get it fixed in an upcoming release. In the meantime, I’ve found a workaround that prints forms on the correct size of paper, at least on my LaserJet 6p:

1. In Point, go to FilePaper Sources... and note the source of each size of paper.
2. Open the Custom Form for editing: Templates → (select your form) → Open.
3. In Word, go to FilePage Setup...
4. Click the Paper tab.
5. Under Paper Source, for both First page: and Other pages:, manually select the appropriate paper source (which you got in Step 1) for the paper size that your Custom Form requires.
6. Save and close your form.
7. Back in Point, in the FilePrint... dialog, check Print in order of paper size.

The next time you print, though they won't be printed in their selected order, your forms should appear on the correct paper size. Please let me know how well this works for you; I’m curious to see if this works on other printers.

Finally, I’m gonna echo Bryan’s appreciation for the level of detail in your report — I was able to get down to testing without having to ask any questions.

I am having the same problem with mine. I have a custom Form Group and the Loan Application prints on letter size paper as oppose to legal. The problem we face is that we actually save them to PDF not print them to printer.

As a side question also, is it possible to have both the legal and letter sized forms printed to one PDF with both size sheets. I know i've seen PDFs with legal and letter papers in them.

One of the big changes in 5.2 is the switch to a letter-sized 1003, so whether you print it to paper or PDF, that’s how it’s gonna come out. As to the second part of your question, Point cannot print differently-sized forms into a single PDF. There are, however, several utilities that can merge multiple PDFs into a single one. The least expensive one I could find is available from this page, but I haven’t played with it yet.

Sorry, but I've been slammed with other project work over the last several days and have not had a chance to respond.

Thanks for the suggestion, but, unfortunately, I am way ahead of you.  I have a few users that have been using this since the 5.1 rollout but the bulk of our users simply cannot  because of the volume of jobs that we print.  It's just not feasible for them to collolate 30+ pages of documents when they are printing as many as 20 packages .

The workaround we have in place for most of our users is to add a built in form after every custom form where the built in form is the same print size as the custom.  If the user does not need the form, they remove it from the packet after they print.  I also have users who have the Print Letter on Legal option enabled, but this effects everything and is, for the most part, not desirable.

I have now seen several posts about this issue, which leads me to believe that there is a bug in the printing on 5.1/5.2.  I have seen some suggestions about Paper Sources as well as reloading print drivers both of which I have tried in my many hours of narrowing down this problem.  I have found that neither of these has been effective in resolving the issue and, ultimately, this is something that the users have just had to deal with with the above mentioned workarounds.

Really, unless there is a hidden option or config file somewhere that I am not aware of, I am confident that I have turned every stone on this issue.  Is Calyx investigating this on the application development side?
