| We are a new user of Point 6.1a and PDS. We have PDS hosted remotely at FocusIT - Calyx's recommended vendor.
We have 9 machines (all XP SP2) with 6.1a installed but 4 won't run using PDS- When logging in to PDS an error shows on each machine:
Calyx Point has encountered an error it could not recover from.
The details are as follows:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException: External component has thrown an exception.
at CPointApp.SubInitInstance(CPointApp* , Int32 LibMode)
at CPointApp.InitInstance(CPointApp*)
When testing the PDS connection in Point Administrator, I get:
Point Administrator MFC Application has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
All machines run 6.1a locally just fine w/ PDS turned off in Point Admin.
I've been through at least one level of escalation in the Dallas office w/ Brandon but have not heard anything - "we're beginning to hear of a few of these problems..." The only solution (that FocusIT figured out) is to downgrade those installations to Point 6.0.
Calyx support tried everything - removing .NET 1.1 and 2.0, removing WSE, snooping through the registry, every other setting they could think of, etc, etc. Nothing works to get 6.1a running. These 4 machines not working are 2 Dell (each different models and ages), an Acer, and one HP. In each case, the downgrade (remove 6.1a and install 6.0) worked and all are up and running as advertised.
It's been 2 weeks since I last heard from Brandon - who worked for 2 weeks on the problem. Good thing I still had Encompass to fall back on!
If anyone else has seen these problems, or got any resolution, I'd love to hear about it!
There's another post from 6/18 showing the removal of WSE solved a similar problem, but that's been tried 2 or 3x on my machines with no change in error messages...
Thanks!

| We have now received the 6.2 upgrade and tried to install that. Same error w/ minor differences.
I don't see that dll in c:\winpoint. In fact, I don't see any dll's at all - is that the right folder?
We tried the WSE remove and re-install trick, too, to no avail again.
We just called Calyx Support and they said they'd escalated this to Development in San Jose. Again. We're on the list and supposedly will receive a call in 24-48 hrs.
I was supposedly escalated when 6.1a was having this problem, but no one ever called me, emailed, etc. to tell me anything. That's something that really p**ses me off about Calyx support...And apparently, that sort of thing happens over and over. These forums are FULL of people complaining about this behavior. Why does it continue? UGH!
I suspect that I'll have to wait until 6.3 next spring to get this finally working. In the meantime, I have 4 users on 6.2 and 6 stuck on 6.0...Nice way to run a railroad, eh?
