Here is a registry key edit that we implemented as a fix to this issue. Mike, not sure if it is going to help you since you are just hanging, but it cant hurt either.  NOTE: be sure that you are comfortable editing your registry key before using this!

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options]
"SQLSecurityCheck"=dword:00000000
Save that as a registry key and run it, or manually edit the registry

John:

Thanks much. I had to add a new value. It didn't seem to make any difference in the outcome but at least I have one possibility crossed of the list. It doesn't seem to matter if SQL is running or not but maybe this will eliminate the possibility of Word requesting something from SQL.

1.  You cannot simply run install.exe from the winpoint folder if you are on Point version 5.3 because it will not use the correct printer name.  For Point version 5.3, you must click on Start > Run > in the Open field, enter  C:\WINPOINT\INSTALL.EXE CALYX DOCUMENT CONVERTER and click OK.  Then try Point again

2.  Disabling script blocking or unchecking the Office Plug-in in Norton Antivirus may resolve the issue.  The office plug-in can be located under miscellaneous somewhere.  If you have any other antivirus software, check for script blocking and disable it.

  1. Close Point.
  2. Open Norton Antivirus.
  3. Click Options or Other.
  4. Click Miscellaneous.
  5. Uncheck the Office Plug-In box and click OK.
  6. Open Point.
  7. E-mail or save a custom form.

3.  Try a single custom form that only has one page, you might come to find that it will fail if you are printing multiple pages of custom forms to .pdf.  If this is the case, it might be pc performance, clean the box a little. Especially if it works on a different computer using the same custom form but fails on a particular pc.

Verify that the default printer in the control panel is not default to Calyx Document Converter, Converter, or Amyuni Document Converter.

4.  Try deleting all .dll files related to Amyuni and reinstall Calyx Document Converter.

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Go to the Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Printers & Faxes.
  • Delete the following printers if they exist:

Amyuni Document Converter

Calyx Document Converter

  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. Double-click Local Disk (C:\).
  3. Double-click the Windows folder.
  4. Double-click the System32 folder.

Delete the following files if they exist:

cdintf.dll

cdintf210.dll

cdintf250.dll

  1. Double-click the spool folder.
  2. Double-click the drivers folder.
  3. Double-click the w32x86.
  • Delete the following files if they exist:

    • acfpdf.txt
    • acfpdf207.dll
    • acfpdf210.dll
    • acfpdf250.dll
    • acpdfui207.dll
    • acpdfui210.dll
    • acpdfui250.dll
    • pdfui250.dll
    1. Double click the 2 folder.

Delete the following files if they exist:

    • acfpdf.txt
    • acfpdf207.dll
    • acfpdf210.dll
    • acpdfui207.dll
    • acpdfui210.dll
    1. Return to the w32x86 folder.
    2. Double click the 3 folder.
  • Delete the following files if they exist:

    • acfpdf.txt
    • acfpdf250.dll
    • acpdfui250.dll
    • pdfui250.dll
    1. From the desktop, select Start > Run.
    2. In the Open field, enter c:\winpoint\install.exe Calyx Document Converter, and click OK.

I won't ask how you figured all of this out. I followed it step by step. It was fun but it didn't work. Same old problem.

I have this problem on all of our boxes. No custom forms will print to any printer. Even simple forms with only one merge field. I get the same problem with print preview. I can turn off or even uninstall antivirus without any changes. (I do have the Office Plugin unchecked.) I have granted Autoword, Point, and Word all permissions. I have tried this on a box without SQL. I have removed and reinstalled Point. I have reinstalled Word (a huge pain). I cleaned out the work directory and temp files. I'm sure custom forms work but I sure can't get them to work for me. It looks like one process is waiting on another which seems to be waiting on the first process. The only solution is to terminate the Word apps. When I do that, Autoword errors out.

I can edit the form from within Point. I can't preview from within the template editor. Sometimes when I terminate Word, the document actually prints but most of the time it doesn't.

I have also check the Normal.dot document to see if there was any weird code in there that was hanging things up. The only thing that's in there is the Adobe plugin. I uninstalled Adobe and still have the same problem. I guess for now, I'm stuck with exporting to a mail merge.

Are you using Outlook as your email software? It is possible that Outlook is tying up your Word resource.

Under Tools/Options/Mail Format, see if you have the Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit checked. If it is, uncheck it. This may just solve your problem.

I have added a picture for those of us that are not quite sure of what I am talking about.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We tried them all, but none of them worked. We installed 5.3a and so far everything is working correctly.

    Calyx, thanks for the update.

    Regards,

I just installed version 5.4.  The default install did not activate the Calyx Document Converter print driver.  How do I do this?  This gives the same kind of error as this discussion.

    Thanks,

    Jerry
