| First Citizens, thanks for the details. It’s good to know that people still need dial-up connectivity. I’ve reproduced your issue and filed a bug report.

| | I am having a problem very similar to the one above - did this ever get resolved? The only major difference I see is that the directories in UserProfile.ini are not in the same order as in winpoint.ini: UserProfile.ini: [Directories] Folder0=\\SERVER\POINT\PNTDATA Folder1=\\SERVER\POINT\FIRST Folder2=\\SERVER\POINT\LEADS Folder3=\\SERVER\POINT\CLOSED Folder4=\\SERVER\POINT\DEAD Folder5=\\SERVER\POINT\ARCHIVE Folder6=SENTINEL [Directories] Folder0=\\SERVER\POINT\PNTDATA Folder1=\\SERVER\POINT\FIRST Application=C:\WINPOINT Templates=\\SERVER\PNTTEMPL Folder2=\\SERVER\POINT\LEADS Folder3=\\SERVER\POINT\CLOSED Folder4=\\SERVER\POINT\DEAD Folder5=\\SERVER\POINT\ARCHIVE Folder6=SENTINEL User=C:\WINPOINT\user
Any help would be greatly appreciated... |

| | kstokking, Yes it did get resolved. So just to summarize, when you call import.exe the file is getting created, but the index is not updated, right? When you call import.exe to create a new file, the data folder path to create the new file needs to be a folder listed in winpoint.ini. What is the data folder path are you using in the data folder parameter when you call import.exe?

| | That's what I thought. We had this problem a few months ago, and realized that your proposed solution fixed it. However, we still get occassional complaints from clients that they need to continually update their indexes. I believe it is a problem of the winpoint.ini file getting overwritten after I fixed it. Does your proposed solution work 100% of the time, or most of the time? It's hard to get reliable feedback from clients. Thanks for the reply. |

| It should work all the time, but I suspect the winpoint.ini is getting overwritten from their Netsetup installation. They should take a look at the Netsetup for all their clients and make sure the data folders you are calling with import.exe is a listed folder in the Netsetup configuration.

| | One thing users of import.exe should know when they use this utility: if you're using a mapped drive, many systems will use the full server path (\\server\folder\folder..., etc) rather than the mapped drive letter. If you use Import.exe to update an existing file using the mapped drive specification rather than the full server path, you may not see the index updated. For example: \\myserver\pointinfo is mapped as p:\ Winpoint.ini and UserProfile.ini have the folder listed as \\myserver\pointinfo\pntdata If you reference the file name in the command line or in the ascii file as m:\pntdata, the file will be updated but the index won't. You need to check the folder listings in Winpoint.ini to build the correct path to your file.
