In one of our Point data folders, we have several loans. Two in particular both have borrowers with the same last name; We'll call them Arnold Smith and Bobby Smith. The Smiths are not related, and these are two totally seperate loans.

We are trying to copy the Arnold Smith loan to another folder. Selecting the Arnold Smith loan, we click Copy..., chose the other Point data folder and click OK. When we browse the other Point data folder, we find a copy of Bobby Smith's loan file, not Arnold's.

We tried copying the Bobby Smith file, and that worked normally.

We tried copying a totally unrelated file, call it Chris Johnson, and that worked normally.

This is repeatable, and I am absolutely sure we are not inadvertently clicking Bobby Smith's file before the copy.

If anyone can offer any insight or assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for any help you can provide!

Make sure all copies of Point are closed on the network. Browse to the Point data folder where you are copying the files from and look for the .INDEX and or .IDX files. Delete those files then open Point again and rebuild the list. (File > Rebuild List)

Deleting the .INDEX files didn't seem to have any effect on the issue. The two files are FIGUEROA.brw and FIGUEROA.ROBERTO.brw.

We are now also having an identical problem with another pair of loans. There are a few pairs of loans in the folder with similar relationships/naming schemes and only these two in particular seem to be having a problem.

Again any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated!

you cannot use a period in the file name, that is the issue.

What version of Point do you have? If you have 5.3, the period in the filename issue was fixed. If you have 5.2 that is unfortunately is a bug.

The user had Point 5.2 when the problem first showed itself. I just upgraded him to 5.3, but he's still having the problem.

After further pestering by me, the user told me he used VForms software to pull his Point data into ACT! some time ago, and since then has used the same VForms software to pull the data from ACT! back into Point. Additionally, after the update the user started Point and the following error message popped up:

Could not locate configuration server. Please contact your network administrator.

Apparently he gets this error every time Point starts, but it does not seem to affect the program's functionality; Could this be related to the file copying trouble?

I have never dealt with Point files created via VForms, so I am not positive that this is the issue. Has anyone else used this combination of software with any success (or lack thereof)? And what is the configuration server?

Thanks again!
