| I recently upgraded the Cardex database to the current version of Jet so that I could use a briefcase to synchronize changes between office and home. That part worked fine but now I get an unhandled exception when I try to add or update a contact through Point. I'm thinking that part of the problem may be that when the conversion is made, Access creates a master and a slave database. Has anyone run into this problem?

| I use MDAC 2.8 but that's not material on XP with SP2. I upgraded using Access 10 SP3. Actually, it was probably Microsoft Briefcase that did some of the update. I suspect it might have something to do with the type of database Briefcase maintains. I can open, edit, and do anything else in Access. Point can still bring information in from Cardex but can't write anything to it.

| Some thing to try. Point ships with a newer pointcdx.mdb file from access 2003. Try renaming your old cardex file, and let the 5.2 install create a new one and import the data from the old cardex. Maybe some thing was off on the upgrade, or like access likes to do it creates a new file and might make the older one read only (though you should get a good error message from point if this were the case) the other thing to check is if there is a pointcdx.ldb file hanging around this is the file used to lock the db, the briefcase may still have write access.

| Version 5.2 seems to have fixed the issue. More than likely, my system had upgraded the database to 2003 version so Point 5.2 caught up with the change.
